Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Matt Koalska
Matt Koalska was born May 16, 1980 in St. Paul, Minnesota. The fifth round, 154th overall selection of the Nashville Predators in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Koalska is a graduate of the USHL's Twin City Vulcans.

An offensively gifted forward, Koalska enrolled at the University of Minnesota in the fall of 2000 and went on to play four years with the Golden Gophers. Throughout his collegiate career, Koalska registered 136 points (42-94-136) while capturing back-to-back National Championships in 2002 and 2003.

Following an impressive collegiate career, Koalska signed as a free-agent with the New York Islanders in the summer of 2004, and went on to make his professional debut with the club's AHL affiliate in Bridgeport Sound. For the better part of the next two seasons, Koalska continued to hone his skills in the AHL while seeing his first taste of the NHL in the latter stages of the 2005-06 season.

In January 2007, the New York Islanders traded Matt Koalska to the Ottawa Senators for Tomas Malec.
