Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Michel Ouellet
Michel Ouellet was born March 5, 1982 in Rimouski, Quebec. The fourth round, 124th overall selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Ouellet is a graduate of the QMJHL's Rimouski Oceanic.

An offensively gifted forward, Ouellet played four seasons in Rimouski registering 299 points (125-174-299) while capturing a Memorial Cup title in 2000. Following a strong junior career, Ouellet spent the majority of his first professional season with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, while seeing limited action with the AHLs Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

A member of the AHL All-Rookie Team in 2004, Ouellet continued to hone his skills in Wilkes-Barre for the next two seasons before making his NHL debut with Pittsburgh in 2005-06.

Ouellet became a mainstay in the Penguin line-up and was known for notching goals on the clubs potent power play. On February 16th, Ouellet skated in his 100th career NHL game before competing in his first career NHL playoff game.

Despite the Penguins regular season success, the club was eliminated by the Ottawa Senators in the first round of the playoffs. Ouellet recorded a pair of points in the Penguins five playoff games.

In the off-season, Ouellet signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He would appear in the majority of the Lightning's regular season games throughout 2007-08, finishing the season with a plus/minus rating of plus 11 on the league's worst team.

However, in an effort to cut salary, he was placed on waivers and later traded along with Shane O'Brien to the Vancouver Cancuks prior to the start of the 2008-09 season.
