Jonas Ronnqvist was born August 22, 1973 in Kalix, Sweden. The fourth round, 98th overall selection of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Ronnqvist played his hockey overseas in the Swedish Elite League with Lulea HF before coming to North America in 2000-01.

Following a 39 point season in 1999-00 with Lulea, Ronnqvist split his time between Cincinnati and Anaheim in 2000-01 registering four assists. Ronnqvist played one more season in Cincinnati before returning to Sweden in 2002-03.
