Jared Aulin was born March 15, 1982 in Calgary, Alberta. The second round choice, 47th overall selection of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Aulin is a graduate of the WHLs Kamloops Blazers.

The Calgary, Alberta native spent five seasons in Kamloops, leading the Blazers in scoring (31-77-108) and finishing third overall in league scoring during the 2000-01 season. In his final year in Kamloops Aulin was named team captain and finished third in team scoring and was instrumental in Canadas silver medal finish at the 2002 World Junior Championships.

Injuries plagued Aulin's 2003-04 season and he was subsequently dealt to the Washington Capitals for Anson Carter prior to the trading deadline.
