Nikita Alexeev was born December 27, 1981 in Murmansk, Russia. The 1st round choice, 8th overall selection of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Alexeev is a graduate of the Ontario Hockey League's Erie Otters.

At 6'5" 215lbs, Alexeev has few limits on how good he can become. A dimensional skater who has both good offensive and defensive instincts, the Murmansk, Russia native spent three seasons with the Otters, where he was a Third Team OHL All-Star and was voted one of the best skaters in the Ontario Hockey League during the 2000-01 season, winning the fastest skater and 150' dash at the 2000 CHL Top Prospects skills event.

Alexeev bounced between the minors and the Lightning for the next several years before returning to his native Russia in 2005.Alexeev appeared in 40 games with Avangard Omsk in Russia before signing as a free agent with the Lightning in the summer of 2006.

Alexeev would appear in 63 games with the Lightning and notch 21 points before he was sent to the Chicago Blackhawks for Karl Stewart at the NHL trading deadline.

Missed majority of 2003-04 due to shoulder injury vs. Philadelphia (AHL) on November 2, 2003. Traded to Chicago by Tampa Bay for Karl Stewart and Florida's 6th round pick (previously acquired, Tampa Bay selected Luke Witkowski) in 2008 NHL Draft, February 27, 2007. Signed as a free agent by Kazan (Russia), August 23, 2007.
