Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jerred Smithson
Jerred Smithson was born February 4, 1979 in Vernon, British Columbia. A free agent signing by the Los Angeles Kings in 2000, Smithson is a graduate of the WHL's Calgary Hitmen.

The Vernon, B.C. native spent five seasons with the Hitmen before joining splitting the 2000-01 season with the ECHL's Trenton Titans and the AHL's Lowell Loch Monsters. In 2001-02 Smithson joined the AHL's Manchester Monarchs before making his NHL debut with the Kings during the 2002-03 season. After one more season with the Kings organization, Smithson joined the Nashville Predators organization in the summer of 2004.

In Nashville, Smithson grew to become a reliable and prudent NHL winger. After six years with the Predators, Smithson was traded to the Florida Panthers in the days leading up to the 2012 NHL trade deadline in exchange for a sixth round draft pick.

Smithson would appear in 35 games for the Panthers during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, scoring twice and adding three assists before finding himself on the move once more. He was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a fourth round draft pick.
