Juraj Kolnik was born November 13, 1980 in Nitra, Slovakia. The fourth round, 101st overall selection of the New York Islanders in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Kolnik is a graduate of the QMJHL.

A high scoring winger, Kolnik played two seasons in the QMJHL with Rimouski and Quebec, highlighted by a 106-point season in 1999-00 and a Memorial Cup championship with Rimouski in 2000. Kolnik split the early part of the 2000-01 season with the Islanders and their AHL affiliate in Lowell before joining the AHL's Springfield Falcons.

In 2001-02, Kolnik was back in the Islanders organization and split his season between Long Island and the team's AHL affiliate in Bridgeport Sound. Kolnik was instrumental in leading his team to the Calder Cup Final, only to come up short against the eventual champion Chicago Wolves.

After a strong season in 2001-02, Kolnik was acquired by the Florida Panthers prior to the 2002-03 seaosn. In his first season with the Panthers organization, Kolnik spent the majority of the year with the team's AHL affiliate in San Antonio while seeing limited action with the parent club. The 2003-04 season marked Kolnik's first full season in the NHL.

On the international stage Klonik has represented his homleand at the 2000 World Junior Championship and the 2004 World Championship.
