Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Michal Sivek
Michal Sivek was born January 21, 1981 in Nachod, Czech Republic. The second round, 29th overall selection of the Washington Capitals in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Sivek spent the early part of his career in the Czech Republic as a member of Sparta Praha and one season with Kladno.

An offensively gifted player, Sivek came to North America in 99-2000 and joined the WHLs Prince Albert Raiders. In his only season with Prince Albert, the Nachod, Czech Republic native finished fourth in team scoring with 60 points (23-37-60) and was teammates with future NHLers Milan Kraft, Scott Hartnell and Nick Shultz.

Sivek never had the opportunity to show off his skills in a Capitals uniform as he was involved in four player deal that sent him and up and coming prospects Kris Beech and Ross Lupaschuk to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Frantisek Kucera and NHL Superstar Jaromir Jagr.

The 2001-02 season saw Sivek split his year with the Penguins AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre Scranton and Sparta Praha before making his NHL debut with the Penguins the following year. Sivek went on to play 38 games with the Penguins while continuing to hone his skills in Wilkes-Barre Scranton.
