Gregg Naumenko was born March 30, 1977 in Chicago, Illinois. A graduate of the USHL's North-Iowa Huskies, Naumenko went on to play one season of college hockey with the University of Alaska-Anchorage before making his professional debut with the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in 1999-00.
In his first professional season the netminder from Chicago, IL suited up for the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks where in his first full season had a 17-25-7 record along with a 2.98 goals against average. In 2000-01 Naumenko improved to a 20-12-3 record and impressed the Anaheim brass enough to earn two games with the parent club.
Upon making his NHL debut in 2000-01, Naumenko found himself splitting his 2001-02 season with the ECHL's Augusta Lynx, Dayton Bombers and Cincinnati of the AHL. Coming off well traveled season in 2001-02, Naumenko was on the move again in 2002-03, splitting his time with the AHL's Cleveland Barons and Cincinnati and the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones.
