Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mike Zigomanis
Michael Zigomanis was born January 17, 1981 in North York, Ontario. The fourth choice, 64th overall selection of the Buffalo Sabres in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Zigomanis is a graduate of the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs.

An offensively gifted player, Zigomanis spent four seasons with the Frontenacs accumulating 133 goals and 198 assists for 331 points before re-entering the draft in 2001 after being unable to reach a contract agreement with the Sabres. Zigomanis became the second choice, 46th overall selection of the Carolina Hurricanes and joined the team's AHL affiliate in Lowell for the 2001-02 season.

After a strong rookie season in Lowell, Zigomanis returned to Lowell in 2002-03 and impressed the Carolina brass enough to warrant some playing time with the parent club. In 19 games with the Canes, Zigomanis managed to score two goals and three points.

In 2003-04, Zigomanis continued to hone his skills in the AHL, while seeing occasional game action with Carolina. Over the course of the next three seasons the North York, ON native was a mainstay in the AHL and in January of 2006 was dealt to the St. Louis Blues in a package deal that brought highly skilled centerman Doug Weight to Carolina.

Zigomanis would spend the majority of the end of his season with the Blues' AHL affiliate in Peoria before signing as a free agent in the off-season with the Phoenix Coyotes.
