Born in Carleton Place, Ontario Stewart played junior with Kingston high school squad and the local Frontenacs. He then spent several years with the senior Toronto Argonauts, Toronto Dentals, Toronto Aura Lee and Hamilton Tigers. Four times Stewart led all OHA senior netminders in wins.
Stewart signed with Boston as a free agent in December 1924 and played 21 games as an NHL rookie. The next year he recorded six shutouts and 16 wins for the Beantowners. Stewart retired in 1927 after making 21 appearances for the Bruins and nine for the Hamilton Tigers of the Can-Pro League.
