Born in Edmonton, goaltender Ross McKay played his junior hockey with the Calgary Wranglers and then pursued an education at the University of Saskatchewan where he was twice named to the CWUAA Second All-Star Team and once to the First All-Star Team.
McKay signed a professional contract with the Hartford Whalers, now the Carolina Hurricanes, in May 1988. After three years in the Whalers' farm system, and a brief call-up to Hartford in 1990-91 where he played in part of a game as an injury replacement, McKay left hockey to pursue a career as a chiropractic physician.
Dr. McKay graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in 1994 and has held his own private practice since then. The main focus of his practice has always been sports-related, although he does family services as well.
Dr. McKay and his wife Chris reside in Downers Grove, Illinois with their two children. In his spare time, he teaches hockey, and specifically goaltending, to youngsters wanting to better learn the game.
