Andrew Peters was born May 5, 1980 in St. Catharines, Ontario. The second round, 34th overall selection of the Buffalo Sabres in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Peters is a graduate of the OHL.

A hulking winger, Peters began his OHL career with the Oshawa Generals where he spent two seasons before joining the Kitchener Rangers prior to the 99-2000 season. After three seasons in the OHL, the hard-nosed winger made his professional debut with the AHL's Rochester Americans in 2000-01. In his second year with the Amerks in 2001-02, Peters led the AHL in penalty minutes with 388 before going on to make his NHL debut with the parent club in Buffalo in 2003-04. In his first season in Buffalo, Peters suited up for 42 games scoring his first two NHL goals and registering 151 minutes.

On September 25, 2009 he signed as a free agent by New Jersey where he would appear in 29 games, racking up 93 minutes in penalties.

On August 20, 2010 Peters signed a one-year deal with the Florida Panthers though he would not play a single game for the club. He was dealt to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Darcy Hordichuk in the days leading up to the 2009-10 season.
