Dave Morissette played three years of major junior hockey in the QMJHL with the Shawinigan Cataractes where it was no secret his main role was to serve as policeman, protecting the team's star players. Should any opponent take liberties with them, they'd soon find Dave Morissette in hot pursuit. In his rookie year he was one of the league leaders in penalty minutes with 298. However, the one thing that can be said for Morissette is that he always played within the bounds of the rules, and missed just two games during his three years with the club, which also showed a marked resiliency.
Morissette had somewhat of an offensive breakout year in 1990-91 when he put together a 20-goal, 46-point season. The following season he turned pro and spent most of the year in the ECHL with the Hampton Road Admirals. After four years in the IHL with the Manitoba Moose and the Houston Aeros, Morissette finally got his chance at the NHL when he signed a free-agent contract with the Montreal Canadiens in June, 1998. He played in just ten games, but made his presence felt with 52 minutes in penalties. His only other NHL game was with the Canadiens during the 1999-00 season, when he added another fight to his penalty minutes resume.
Morissette last played professionally in 2000-01 with the London Knights of the British League and the Lake Charles Ice Pirates of the WPHL.
