Greg Koehler was born February 27, 1975 in Scarborough, Ontario. A graduate of the University of UMass-Lowell, Koehler spent two seasons at UMass-Lowell before making his professional debut with the AHL's New Haven Beast towards the end of the 1997-98 season.
An offensively gifted player, Koehler played his first full pro season in 1998-99, splitting his year with New Haven and the ECHL's Florida Everblades. In 1999-00, the Scarborough, Ontario native joined the IHL's Cincinnati Cyclones and broke out offensively with the team the following year. During the 2000-01 IHL season, Koehler scored 71 points (35-36-71) in 80 games and was fortunate enough to make his NHL debut with the Carolina Hurricanes that same year.
Over the coarse of the next two years, Koehler has had stints in the AHL with Lowell, Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Manchester.
