On the international stage Piros led all players in scoring at the 2000 Baltica Cup, an annual tune-up tournament for the World Championships and represented the Czech Republic at the 1997 and 1998 World Junior Championships.

Having never played a single game for the Sabres organization, Piros was acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers in the latter half of the 2000-01 NHL season and went on to make his NHL debut with the Thrashers the following season.

In his first season with the Thrashers, Piros played in eight games while spending the majority of the season with the team's AHL affiliate in Chicago. Over the course of the next two seasons, Piros split his time between Atlanta and Chicago before being acquired by the Florida Panthers just prior to the 2004 trade deadline.
