Left-winger Brian Felsner was still trying to gain a full time slot in the NHL with the...in 2001-02. He played 12 games for the Chicago Black Hawks in 1997-98 but was predominantly a minor leaguer as a pro.
Born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Felsner attended Lake Superior State University for just over two seasons. After scoring 41 goals in 85 career college games, he remained unsigned and undrafted. Felsner joined the Orlando Solar Bears of the IHL and scored 70 points in his rookie year as a pro.
The Chicago Black Hawks were sufficiently impressed with Felsner's effort in the "I" that they signed him as a free agent at the start of training camp in 1997. Although he wasn't ready for the NHL, the young forward showed some of his potential in a 12-game look during the 1997-98 season. He averaged a point per game in the IHL that year then was traded to the Ottawa Senators in August, 1998.
