Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Brian Willsie
A native of London, Ontario Brian Willsie starred for three years with the Guelph Storm of the OHL and was taken 146th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He returned to junior and was named to the OHL First All-Star team in 1998 after registering 76 points on the strength of 45 goals.

An offensively gifted player, Willsie made his professional debut in 1998-99 and spent the better part of his first four seasons with the AHL's Hershey Bears while suiting up for his first full season with the Avalanche in 2001-02. The former Guelph junior went on to play one more season with the Avalanche before being claimed in the 2003 Waiver Draft by the Washington Capitals.

During the lock out, Willsie split his season with Ljubljana in Slovenia and the Capitals AHL affiliate in Portland. In 2005-06, Willsie would become a regular in the Capitals line-up and be the only player on the team to compete in each game of the season. Willsie would also enjoy a career high in goals, assists and points (19-22-41) in his 82 games with the Capitals.

Following his stint with the Capitals, Willsie was signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Kings in the summer of 2006. As a King, Willsie competed in 81 games and contributed 11 goals in his first season as a King. He returned to the Avalanche in the summer of 2008 when the Kings opted not to re-sign the unrestricted free agent.

On the international stage Willsie reprsented Canada at the 1998 World Junior Championships.
