Joey Tetarenko was born March 3, 1978 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The fourth round, 82nd overall selection of the Florida Panthers in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Tetarenko is a graduate of the WHL's Portland Winter Hawks.
A Memorial Cup winner in 1998, Tetarenko spent four seasons on the Winter Hawk blueline before making his professional debut with the AHL's New Haven Beast in 1998-99. A hard-nosed defenceman, Tetarenko spent parts of two more seasons in the AHL before making his NHL debut with Florida during the 2000-01 season.
The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native played parts of two more seasons with the Panthers organization before being dealt to the Ottawa Senators in during the 2002-03 season. Tetarenko split his time with the parent club and its AHL affiliate in Binghamton, before being acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes in the summer of 2003.
Following a season with the AHL's Houston Aeros in 2004-05, Tetarenko was acquired by the Minnesota Wild in the summer of 2005.
