Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Alexei Yegorov
Alexei Yegorov was born May 21, 1975 in St. Petersburg, USSR. The third selection, 66th overall, of the San Jose Sharks in the 1994 Entry Draft, Yegorov came to North America for the 1994-95 season sharing his time with SKA St. Petersburg and the Fort Worth Fire of the Central Hockey League.

In 1995-96, Yegorov spent the majority of the season with the Kansas City Blades of the now defunct IHL where he finished sixth in the league rookie scoring with 31 goals and 56 points. The Sharks called him up in the new year, which at that time made him the first player from the CHL to make it to the National Hockey League in more than a year. Yegorov recorded his first career point (assist) in his first career NHL game, and only a few days later he recorded a hat trick in his first game in which he scored a goal.

Playing in only two games for the Sharks in 1996-97, Yegorov reached a career high in points (58) with the Kentucky Thoroughblades of the AHL. When 1997-98 AHL season came to an end, Yegorov had just completed his most successful professional season, finishing ninth in league scoring and setting career highs in goals (32), assists (52), and points (84).

In 1998-99, Yegorov returned to Russia before returning to North America in 1999-2000 after being claimed by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 Expansion Draft. He began the season as a member of the United Hockey League's Adirondack IceHawks before ending it with the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL.

At the end of the 1999-2000 season, Alexei Yegorov had recorded three goals and six points in eleven career NHL games.

After playing two more years split between the UHL, IHL and Germany, Yegorov died tragically on March 2, 2002.
