Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Denis Pederson
Denis Pederson had completed just over one season of junior with the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL before the New Jersey Devils made him their first choice in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. He had power forward written all over his large, sturdy, offensively productive frame.

He continued with the Raiders for three more successful seasons before putting in a stint at the World Junior Championships in 1995. From there, he was assigned to the Devils AHL affiliate, the Albany River Rats, just in time for the playoffs. He weathered his first post-season as a pro and came back for more the following year, playing ten games with the Devils and the rest with Albany.

By 1996-97, Pederson began to spend most of his time with the Devils who were eager to cash in the chips on their promising prospect. But over the course of his four-plus seasons in Jersey, he was unable to fire up the scoring touch that brought him so much success in Prince Albert. To survive at the NHL level, he adapted his game to become an impeccably effective defensive forward. As a graduate of the Devils' defensive program, he played consistently with grit and intensity.

During the 1999-00 campaign, the Devils went to the marketplace in search of some offensive punch. They found it in the form of Vancouver's scoring ace Alexander Mogilny. The price tag for the transaction required Pederson and Brendan Morrison to join the Canucks. In Vancouver, Pederson continued to play a strong defensive game. After parts of three seasons with the Canucks, Pederson was dealt to the Phoenix Coyotes midway through the 2001-02 before settling with the Nashville Predators in 2002-03.

Following three seasons competing with Eisbaren Berlin of the German League, Pederson was signed by the St. Louis Blues in October, 2006.
