Defenceman Marek Posmyk played a few games for the Tampa Bay Lightning between 1999 and 2001. He was at his best when utilizing his 6'5", 228lb. frame to ward off enemy forwards but his positional play often lacked discipline.
Born in Jihlava, Czechoslovakia, Posmyk played for the heralded local Dukla club and was chosen 36th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1996. He joined the OHL's Sarnia Sting in 1997-98 to help him adjust to the North American style of play. The hulking defender never got beyond the AHL with the Maple Leafs and was included in the deal that brought Mike Johnson to Tampa in exchange for Darcy Tucker.
Posmyk saw a bit of action with the Lightning after the trade in February, 2000 but was relegated to the minors the next year. He played well for the IHL's Detroit Vipers but opted to sign with Continental Zlin of the Czech League in the off-season.
