Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Patrik Augusta
Augusta was a speedy forward drafted under the Cliff Fletcher-Anders Hedberg regime in Toronto, which saw the Leafs give Europeans a chance with the team for the first time. He played January 1 and 2, 1994 but spent most of the next two years with the farm team in St. john's, leading the league in scoring with 53 goals in that 1993-94 season.

Hedberg had also touted Nikolai Borschevsky, and knew Augusta's father, Josef, who was a player on the Czech national team in the 1970s and a member of that country's Canada Cup entry. Augusta, though, quickly slipped into the IHL, and after four years the Leafs allowed his contract to expire. He signed with Washington during 1998-99, but the results were identical as with the Leafs: he played two games for the Caps and spent the rest of the year in the minors.

For 2000-01, Augusts returned to Europe to play in Germany, like so many other skilled players who simply couldn't crack the NHL.
