Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Marko Tuomainen
Marko Toumainen played two years in his homeland of Finland before he crossed the ocean to go to University and play hockey at Clarkson. Toumainen spent four years at the University, scoring 23 or more goals in his last three seasons. Just days after his final collegiate game Toumainen made the leap to the National Hockey League.

The Edmonton Oilers drafted the right-winger following his first season state side and they put him in uniform for four games at the end of the 1995 season. Though he didn't register a point he was able to direct five shots on goal.

After spending the next two years restricted to the minor leagues Toumainen returned to Finland to play the 1997-98 season. He ended up playing back home for three seasons but a free agent contract offer from the Los Angeles Kings lured him back to North America.

In 1999-2000, Toumainen played his only full NHL campaign when he suited up for 63 games with Los Angeles and scored 9 goals and 17 points. The next year his games played slipped to just 11 and his points all the way down to one.

In the summer of 2001, with his Kings contract expired, Toumainen signed on with the New York Islanders. Though he was sent to their minor league club, he did make a one game appearance for the Islanders.
