Rick Mrozik was born January 18, 1975 in Duluth, Minnesota. The sixth round, 136th overall selection of the Dallas Stars in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Mrozik is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he played four years of collegiate hockey with schools varsity team.

A Second Team All-WCHA All-Star in his senior year, Mrozik had his rights dealt to the Washington Capitals in 1995 before making his professional debut with the AHLs Portland Pirates in 1997-98. After two seasons in Portland, Mrozik had stops in the ECHL with Pee Dee and the AHL with Worcester and Syracuse before joining the AHLs Saint-John Flames in 2000-01. Mrozik went on to play three seasons in Saint-John, helping the team capture the 2001 Calder Cup title, while getting his first taste of the NHL with the parent club in Calgary during the 2002-03 NHL season.

In the summer of 2003 Mrozik signed as a free-agent with the Buffalo Sabres and has spent his first two seasons with the clubs AHL affiliate in Rochester.
