Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Steve Wojciechowski
Steve Wojociechowski was born Christmas Day, 1922 in Fort William, Ontario. Also known as Steve Wochy, he joined the NHL in 1944-45 as a member of the Detroit Red Wings.

Prior to joining the Red Wings, Wojociechowski was a member of the Thunder Bay Junior Hockey League, the Thunder Bay Senior Hockey League, the Ontario Senior Hockey Association, and the Winnipeg National Defense Hockey League.

The 1944-45 season saw Wojociechowski make his NHL debut with the Red Wings, where in 54 games he scored 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 points. Although he finished fifth in Red Wings scoring, Wojociechowski joined the Indianapolis Capitols of the American Hockey League for the 1945-46 season, while playing 17 games for the Omaha Knights in the United States Hockey League.

Wojociechowski returned to the Red Wings line-up for the 1946-47 season, while playing in only four games before being sent once again to Indianapolis. In June 1947 Wojociechowski was traded to the Cleveland Barons of the AHL and two months later to the Philadelphia Rockets of the same league.

After two seasons with Philadelphia (1947-49), Wojociechowski was on his way back to Cleveland and the Barons for the next four, leading the team in scoring in 1951-52 and leading them to the 1953 Calder Cup championship.

In summer of 1953, Wojocieowski was dealt to the Buffalo Bisons (AHL) where he spent the entire 1953-54 season and parts of the 1954-55 season before being traded to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Northern Ontario Hockey Association where he ended his playing career.
