Juha Widing was born on July 4, 1947 in Oulu, Finland, and grew up in Sweden. As a teenager the Widing family move to Brandon, Manitoba, where Juha would star for the Wheat Kings of the MJHL. In 43 games for the club during the 1966-67 season, Widing scored a 70 goals and added 74 assists for a league-high 144 points.

Property of the New York Rangers, Widing made his professional debut for the club's Central Hockey League affiliate, the Omaha Knights, during the 1967-68 season. He would go on to lead the club with 27 goals during his rookie campaign and his 33 assists were tied for the team lead. He would improve upon those numbers the following season, scoring 41 times to go along with 39 assists.

In 1969-70, Widing became just the third Finnish-born player to appear in an NHL game. He would go on to suit up in 44 games for the Rangers, scoring seven goals and adding seven assists.

On February 28, 1970, Widing's time in the Rangers organization would come to an end. He was traded to the Los Angeles Kings along with Real Lemieux in exchange for Ted Irvine. Widing went on to lead the Kings in scoring for the next three seasons and in 1972-73 posted a career-high 70 points.

Widing was on the move again on January 22, 1977 when he was traded by the Kings to the Cleveland Barons. He would finish what would prove to be the final season of his NHL career with the Barons, appearing in 29 games and registering 14 points.

Widing joined the Edmonton Oilers of the WHA for the 1977-78 season. In 71 games he scored 18 goals and added 24 assists. He would retire at season's end having appeared in 575 games during his NHL career, with 144 goals and 226 assists over the course of eight seasons.
