Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Len Wharton
Winnipeg, Manitoba native Len Wharton headed south to the United States to pursue his professional hockey career in 1944. Wharton signed on with the Eastern League's New York Rovers for his rookie season but found himself in the National Hockey League's New York Rangers before the season was through.

Wharton joined the Rangers for a single game and the defenseman was unable to crack the score sheet for New York.

Though his single game wit the Broadway Blueshirts proved to be Wharton's only time in the NHL, his playing career continued for nine more seasons. After another season with the Rovers, Wharton returned to Canada and played a year with the Stratford Kroehlers of the Ontario Hockey Association before settling back in the States for the rest of his career. Whatron bounced around the next two seasons with stops in San Diego and Louisville before landing in Toledo where he played the next three campaigns with the Mercury's. In 1952 Wharton joined the Fort Wayne Komets and enjoyed the best season of his career. In 59 games for them he scored five goals and a career-best 29 points. Wharton played one final season for the Komets before finishing his career.
