Brian Watts played his Junior hockey in Hamilton, Ontario then moved on to Michigan Tech for the next four seasons then turned professional in 1970. Watts began a nomadic tour through minor pro with stops in Port Huron, Fort Worth, Virginia and then he headed overseas to London, England for the 1973-74 campaign. In 1975, a full eleven years after he was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings, Watts made his NHL debut with them.

Watts, a left-winger, played four games with Detroit but he was unable to register a point. The rest of his season was spent in New Haven of the Central Hockey League.

The following year, the 1976-77 season, Watts headed to Europe again, this time landing in Sweden to play with Bjorkloven Umea. Watts chipped in seven goals and one assist in 25 games with the club before retiring from hockey.
