Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jim Warner
Jim Warner represented the United States at the World Championships three times during his four years at Colorado College. Warner, a high-scoring right-winger who scored 89 goals in 130 collegiate games drew attention from the World Hockey Association's New England Whalers when he was finished with school in 1978. Though he had been drafted by the New York Rangers late in the 1974 Amateur draft he never came to terms with the club and was free to sign with whoever he wanted. The Whalers inked Warner to a deal and he split his first season as a pro between New England and the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League. When the WHA merged with the NHL in 1979 the team management elected to retain Warner's rights and he found himself playing in the big leagues during the 1979-80 campaign.

Warner suited up for 32 matches with the now-renamed Hartford Whalers and contributed three assists in that time. The rest of that season Warner was back in the AHL with the Indians where he posted 33 points in 45 games.

Jim Warner retired from the game following that campaign with three NHL points in 32 games and 11 points in 41 contests in the WHA.
