Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Greg Vaydik
Center Greg Vaydik was a big time scorer while playing Junior with the Medicine Hat Tigers and as a result he was the Chicago Black Hawks first round choice, just seventh overall in the 1975 Amateur Draft. In 1975-76 he turned professional and joined Chicago's farm club, the Dallas Black Hawks. During his second season in Texas he got a brief look up at the NHL level.

In five games in the Windy City the Hawks big prospect showed very little being shutout while taking just two shots and registering a -2 plus/minus rating. The fans in Chicago couldn't have known this was to be the last NHL appearance for their prized youngster.

The rest of that season and all of the next five campaigns were spent exclusively in the minor while Vaydik tried to rediscover whatever it was the made him a 50-goal 100-point man back in his Medicine Hat days. However, it proved elusive and following the 1981-82 season Greg Vaydik gave up trying and retired from the game.
