Right-winger Alex Tidey played a few games for the Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers in the 70s and 80s. He was more successful in junior and the minors where he was a reliable goal scorer.
Born in Vanouver, Tidey played with three different WCJHL clubs and was taken 143rd overall by Buffalo in 1975 after a 42-goal season with the Lethbridge Broncos. The next year he opted to initiate his pro career with the WHA's San Diego Mariners. In 1976-77 he joined the Sabres but was utilized chiefly in the minors. His best season was a 31-goa effort for the Hershey Bears of the AHL in 1978-79.
Early in the 1979-80 season, Tidey was sent to the Oilers for veteran John Gould. Over the next two years he played in the CHL and AHL before retiring in 1981.
