Left-winger Max Sutherland played two games for the Boston Bruins in 1931-32. He was better known as a dogged worker in the corners in senior hockey circles and the minors.

Born in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, Sutherland played junior with the Moose Jaw Monarchs and Canucks. He then moved up to the senior level with the Moose Jaw Maple Leafs. Moose Jaw Millers and Pense Wanderers. In 1926-27 Sutherland turned pro with the Moose Jaw Maroons of the Prairie League and later joined the PCHL's Seattel Eskimos.

The rugged forward played a couple of NHL games with Boston in 1931-32 but spent the bulk of that year in the Can-Am circuit. He then spent three years in the PCHL/NWHL with the Calgary Tigers before taking a year off. He spent a year coaching the senior Olds Esks then played two years with the club before retiring in 1939.
