Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bill Summerhill
Right-winger Bill Summerhill played briefly with the Montreal Canadiens and Brooklyn Americans in the 30s and 40s. He was a fine playmaker who could also find the back of the net with regularity, especially in the minors.

The Toronto native was a top scorer with the senior Verdun Maple Leafs in 1937-38 before the Habs for one playoff game recalled him. The next year he notched 16 points as a rookie and formed an effective unit with Polly Drouin and Herb Cain. He then spent the majority of the next two seasons in the AHL before the Americans obtained him on the eve of the 1941-42 season.

Summerhill played 16 games for Brooklyn during the franchise's last NHL season and registered 21 goals in 36 games for the Springfield Indians of the AHL. After scoring 43 goals for the Buffalo Bisons and earning a spot on the AHL second all-star team, Summerhill spent two years in the military during World War II.

Following the War, the veteran forward enjoyed six fine years in the minors before retiring in 1951. He topped the 20-goal mark four times including a personal best 30 markers for Springfield in 1948-49.
