Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- John Stewart
After three seasons in the juniors, the Penguins in the second round of the 1970 Amateur Draft selected John Stewart. He made his NHL debut the next season, splitting his playing time between Pittsburgh and Amarillo of the CHL.

After Stewart played another season of life in both the NHL and the minors, Alberta selected him in the newly formed WHA's general player draft. However, the Atlanta Flames in the NHL's Expansion Draft of that year also claimed him. Stewart played his first full season in the NHL during 1973-74 but was on the move again in 1974 when he was traded to the California Golden Seals.

The 1974-75 season was his last in the NHL as he opted to head to the WHA where he played for three teams in two seasons before finishing off his career in the AHL with the Philadelphia Firebirds.
