Blair Stewart was selected out of the WCJHL's Winnipeg Jets by the Red Wings in the 1973 Amateur Draft and made his NHL debut in the 1973-74 season. He spent the majority of his first two seasons with the Wings' AHL affiliate in Virginia until being dealt to the Capitals in 1975.

The 1975-76 season saw Stewart play in his only full season in the NHL. He spent the next two seasons with the Hershey Bears before being claimed by the Nordiques in the 1979 Expansion Draft. The 1979-80 season was Stewart's last in the NHL. He played one more year in the CHL before retiring from the game.
