Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Wilf Starr
Centre Wilf "Twinkie" Starr spent parts of four seasons with the New York Americans and Detroit Red Wings in the 30s. He was a talented goal scorer who spent plenty of time in the minors and senior leagues.

Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba Starr played junior with the Winnipeg Columbus before moving up to the city's senior CPR team. He also played for the University of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Winnipegs before turning pro with the Springfield Indians of the Can-Am League in 1930-31.

Starr was originally signed by the New York Rangers in 1930 but never suited up for them. In 1932 he was traded to the New York Americans and played 26 games as an NHL rookie that year. The next year he was sent to the Red Wings and spent two years adding depth to the club's blueline. He also saw action in the IAHL and remained in the minors until he retired in 1940. His best year as a minor leaguer came in 1936 when he was the leading scorer in the post-season on the Detroit Olympics' IAHL championship season.
