Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Art Somers
Art Somers began his junior career with the Winnipeg Falcons and helped them win the Memorial Cup in 1921. He then moved on to the CHL's Winnipeg Maroons from 1925 to 1928, playing the 1928-29 season with the Vancouver Lions of the PCHL where he led the league in goals and points. Somers was then signed by the Blackhawks and made his NHL debut in 1929.

In Somers's only second season in the league, the Hawks made it to the Stanley Cup finals but fell to the Canadiens as they went on to win their second straight Cup. Somers was traded to the Rangers in 1931 and made it back to the finals his first year with the team, only to lose once again, this time to the Leafs. The next season saw Somers and the Rangers go back to play against the Leafs for the Cup and this time win the championship, Somers leading the playoffs in assists.

Somers ended his NHL career in the 1934-35 season with the Rangers and stepped behind the bench to coach for several teams in Canada as well as a team in Houston that introduced hockey to the Southern U.S.
