Forward Gene Sobchuk played one game for the Vancouver Canucks in 1973-74. He was a reliable goal scorer who could also play physically at both ends of the ice.
Born in Lang, Saskatchewan, the older brother of WHA star Dennis Sobchuk was taken 109th overall by the New York Rangers in 1971 after a solid amateur career with the Weyburn Red Wings and Regina Pats. He spent most of his first three years in the minors and became a member of the Canucks via the Reverse Draft.
By the mid-70s Sobchuk headed for the WHA. In 1975-76 he scored 24 goals for the Cincinnati Stingers then settled back into a minor league career before retiring in 1978.
