Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Dennis Sobchuk
Centre Dennis Sobchuk played a few games for the Detroit Red Wings and Quebec Nordiques in the '70s and '80s. He was a natural goal scorer who tormented netminders in junior and the WHA.

The native of Lang, Saskatchewan was chosen 89th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1974 after he amassed 416 points in three years with the Regina Pats of the WCJHL. He was named to the league's second all-star team in 1972 and helped Regina win the Memorial Cup in 1974.

Rather than join the NHL, Sobchuk opted to sign with the WHA's Phoenix Roadrunners and scored 32 goals as a rookie pro in 1974-75. He then spent two and a half years with the Cincinnati Stingers and notched a personal best 44 goals in 1976-77. After spending parts of two seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, the WHA disbanded and he joined the Red Wings.

Sobchuk played 33 games for his new club in 1979-80 but battled injuries and consistency. He played the 1981-82 season with ECS Innsbruck then signed with Quebec. After spending most of the 1982-83 season in the AHL, the veteran scorer retired.
