Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Doug Smith
After two seasons with the OHA's Ottawa 67's, where Doug Smith collected 101 points in only 54 games in the 1980-81 season, he was selected by the L.A. Kings in the 1981 entry draft 2nd overall, right behind Dale Hawerchuk.

Smith made his NHL debut in the 1981-82 season and saw his first Stanley Cup playoff action as the Kings made it to the division finals. Los Angeles, though, was no match for the Canucks who went on to the finals. His finest season came in 1984-85 when Smith collected 41 points in 62 games. The next year he was traded to the Sabres where he played for the next two seasons before being claimed in the Waiver Draft of 1988 by Edmonton.

His time as an Oiler was short as he was dealt to the Canucks in '89 and then traded one last time during the 1989-90 season to the Penguins, where he finished his NHL career. Smith played in Austria for three more seasons before retiring from the game in 1992.
