Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Brian Smith
Brian Smith was born December 6, 1937 in Creighton Mine, Ontario. The son of Stu Smith, Brian honed his skills with the OHA Jr. Hamilton Tigers in the mid to late 1950s before joining the Detroit Red Wings during the 1957-58 season.

Smith went on to play four games with Detroit in 1957-58 before moving on to the WHL's Edmonton Flyers the following year. An offensively gifted forward, Smith rejoined the Red Wings in 1959-60 and split the next two seasons between the Motor City and the AHL's Hershey Bears and the WHL's Edmonton Flyers.

In the summer of 1961, Smith has his rights traded to the Chicago Black Hawks. Upon being dealt from the Motor City to the Windy City, Stuart spent the next three seasons with the AHL's Buffalo Bisons before joining the WHL's Los Angeles Blades in 1964-65 where he was a WHL Second Team All-Star. After two seasons in Los Angeles, Smith returned to Buffalo in 1966-67 and later that summer was dealt to the WHL's Phoenix Roadrunners.

Smith went on to play one season with Phoenix before joining the EHL's Jacksonville Rockets in 1968-69 and eventually retired from hockey in the summer of 1969.
