Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Cully Simon
On May 8th, 1918 Brockville, Ontario became the hometown of Cullen Simon, who was known as "Cully" throughout his professional hockey career. Simon played Senior hockey in the province of Quebec for three years before turning pro with the Omaha Knights in 1941. After a year of minor pro Simon made the leap to the National Hockey League when he joined the Detroit Red Wings in 1943.

Simon played 34 games for the Wings and the defenseman was able to chip in a goal and an assist in that time. The following year he upped his totals to career highs in all categories with 46 games played, three goals, seven assists and 10 points. Simon played 21 games with Detroit during his third season of NHL play before being traded to the Chicago Black Hawks in a four-player trade on January 2nd, 1945.

Simon finished the season with Chicago, playing 29 games and registering one assist. When the season was over Simon left the game as a player and accepted a coaching position with the Pembrooke Lumber Kings an Ottawa Senior club.

Simon coached the Lumber Kings for one season then joined them as a player the following year. He spent the next six years patrolling their blueline before retiring from the game for a second and final time in 1952.
