Centre Steve Self played three games for the Washington Capitals in 1976-77. He was a clever goal scorer who put up impressive numbers in the minors.

Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Self played a year at Colby College and was an NCAA Division II all-American in 1972. The next year he scored 50 goals as a rookie pro with New England and Greensboro of the EHL. Early the next season he moved up to the IHL and notched 56 goals for the Dayton Gems in 1974-75.

At the start of the 1976-77 season Self signed a three game tryout contract with the Caps. He was returned to the minors after his brief exposure to the NHL and recorded 44 goals for Dayton before retiring.
