Left-winger Maynard Schurman played seven games for the Hartford Whalers in 1979-80. He was a decent goal scorer who spent most of his pro career in the minors.
The native of Summerdale, PEI spent two years at Mount Allison University before joining the senior Spokane Flyers. He signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers and scored 23 goals for the IHL's Milwaukee Admirals in 1978-79.
During the off-season he was picked by Hartford in the Expansion Draft and was given a brief taste of the NHL. He enjoyed a few decent years in the minors and with the senior Charlottetown Islanders before retiring in 1984.
