Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Sam Rothschild
Sam Rothschild was born October 16, 1899 in Sudbury, Ontario. Rothschild's road to the NHL began in 1915-16 with the Sudbury Midgets of the Northern Ontario Hockey Association before joining the Quebec Amateur Athletic Association's Montreal Harmonia the following year.

After his one-year stay in the QAAA, Rothschild spent the next two seasons in the Montreal City Hockey League. In his two years with MCHL, Rothschild played for four different teams (Montreal 65th Regiment, Montreal Viciciers, Montreal Stars and Montreal Vickers).

Rothschild returned to his hometown of Sudbury, Ontario 1919-20 where he joined the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey Association's Sudbury Wolves for one season before joining the Northern Ontario Hockey Association's Sudbury Wolves where he spent the next four.

In October of 1924, the Montreal Maroons signed Sam Rothschild as a free agent, where he played three seasons with the Maroons, winning a Stanley Cup in 1926. Rothschild played 91 regular season/playoff games with Montreal before signing as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Pirates at the beginning of the 1927-28 season. After only 12 games with Pittsburgh, the team suspended him for breaking training rules and was released before signing with the New York Americans early in the New Year.

Sam Rothschild retired from hockey following the 1927-28 season, becoming a sales executive with Seagrams and later on the president of the Dominion Curling Associates in 1957-58. In 106 regular season/playoff games, Rothschild scored eight goals and added six assists for 14 career NHL points.
