Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Roly Rossignol
Roly Rossignol was born October 18, 1921 in Edmunston, N.B. The road to the NHL for Rossignol began in 1937-38 as a member of the Edmunston Fraser Pulp of the Northern New Brunswick Hockey League.

Rossignol played two seasons with the Fraser Pulp and also spent some time with the NNBHL's Edmunston Eskimos and Edmunston High School before he joined the Verdun Maple Leafs of the Quebec Junior Hockey League in 1939-40.

In his first year in Verdun, Rossignol led his team to the 1940 Memorial Cup tournament, scoring seven goals and adding four assists for eleven points in seven games. Rossignol returned to Verdun the following year, but managed to play in only one game before joining the Eastern Amateur Hockey League's Washington Eagles.

After only one year in Washington, Rossignol spent the next three seasons with the Quebec Senior Hockey League's Quebec Aces, leading them to the 1944 Allan Cup Championship. While he spent the majority of the 1943-44 season with Quebec, Montreal (Quebec-QSHL) loaned Rossignol to the Detroit Red Wings as an emergency injury replacement, where he made his NHL debut.

Early into the 1944-45 American Hockey League season, Roly Rossignol, who was now a member of the Pittsburgh Hornets was traded to the Montreal Canadiens where he played in only a handful of games before he was dealt back to Montreal by Detroit (Pittsburgh-AHL) midway through that same season.

After going from Montreal to Detroit to Montreal, Rossignol was on his way back again to Detroit prior to the start of the 1945-46 season. Even though he played in a career high eight games that year with Detroit, Rossignol spent the majority of the year as a member of the AHL's Indianapolis Capitols.

Rossignol signed as a free agent with the AHL's St. Louis Flyers for the 1946-47 season, but was traded to the AHL's Providence Reds midway through the season. Playing in only six games with Providence during the 1947-48 season, Rossignol missed the remainder of the season and the entire 1948-49 season recovering from a leg injury.

After he recovered from his leg injury, Rossignol returned for one season with the QSHL's Quebec Aces before joining the Jonquiere Aces of the Quebec Provincial Hockey League in 1950-51. Members of the QPHL the previous year, Rossignol and the Aces became members of the St. Lawrence Senior Hockey League in 1951-52 before he joined the Mont Joli Castors for the 1952-53 season.

Rossignol spent only one season with Mont Joli before joining the SLHL's Riviere-du-Loup 3 L's, where he played in only eight games before returning to the NNBHL as a member of the Dalhousie Rangers. In two years with Dalhousie, Rossignol scored 68 goals and added 86 assists for 154 points, before spending the next eight seasons as a member of the NNBHL's Bathurst Papermakers.

Following the 1962-63 season, Roly Rossignol retired from the game of hockey, having played in 15 career NHL games while scoring three goals and adding five assists for nine career points.
