Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Larry Romanchych
Larry Romanchych played two years of junior hockey, one with the Brandon Wheat Kings in 1967-68 and the other with the Flin Flon Bombers during the season that followed.

He was then picked up by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1969 Amateur Draft. The club promptly placed their new recruit with the Dallas Blackhawks of the CHL. Save for a ten-game cup of coffee in Chicago, Romanchych spent his first three years of pro in Dallas.

By 1972, it was apparent that he had no hope of cracking Chicago's solid lineup. As such, he was left unprotected in the Expansion Draft that led to his move to the Atlanta Flames. The Flames, by contrast, needed all the help they could get. Romanchych got plenty of ice time and made the most of his opportunity. Known as "Swoop," he used his fluid set of wheels and playmaking ability to take some of the expansion pain out of starting fresh in the NHL.

In his first two seasons with the club, he tallied 113 points. He lasted for parts of three more campaigns until he was demoted to the Tulsa Oilers of the CHL in 1977. Romanchych then joined the Maine Mariners of the AHL for one final season after which he retired in 1978.
