Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Gus Rivers
Gus Rivers was born November 19, 1909 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A member of the 1925-26 Winnipeg Vics of the Winnipeg Junior Hockey League, before joining the Elmwood Millionaires (WJrHL) for the next two seasons.

In his two seasons with the Millionaires, Rivers led his team to the 1928 Memorial Cup tournament while also playing a handful of games with the Winnipeg Eaton's of the Winnipeg Senior Hockey League.

Rivers' 1928-29 season was shared between the University of Manitoba of the Manitoba-Thunder Bay Hockey League and the Winnipeg CPR (WSrHL) before joining the Winnipeg Winnipegs of the Manitoba Senior Hockey Leagues the following season.

Midway through the 1929-30 MHL-Sr. season, the Montreal Canadiens signed Gus Rivers as a free agent. Even though he only played a handful of games with the Canadiens during the regular season, Rivers impressed enough to play in six playoff games and was a part of the 1930 Stanley Cup championship team.

More than doubling the number of games played in his previous season, Gus Rivers and the Montreal Canadiens returned to the Stanley Cup finals in 1931 and where they repeated as league champions. In 1931-32, Rivers played his last games in the NHL, before joining the Canadian-American Hockey League's Providence Reds where he spent the next four years, until the Reds became part of the International-American Hockey League in 1936-37.

Gus Rivers played in 88 career NHL regular season games and 16 career playoff games tallying six goals and five assists for eleven points (regular season/playoff) while capturing two Stanley Cups.
