Jaroslav Pouzar was born January 23, 1952 in Cakovec, Czechoslovakia. The 4th choice, 83rd overall selection of the Edmonton Oilers in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft, Pouzar came to North America in 1982-83 after spending the previous eleven seasons in Czechoslovakia.

The Cakovec, Czechoslovakia native is a six-time member of the Czechoslovakian World European Championship team (two gold, three silver and two bronze medals), a two-time member of its Olympic team and a two-time Canada Cup participant.

An offensively gifted player, Pouzar had one 40+ goal season, one 30+ goal season and four 20+ goal seasons while playing for Motor Ceske Budejovice in Czechoslovakia upon his arrival to the Oilers and the NHL.

In 1982-83 Pouzar made his NHL debut with Edmonton scoring 15 goals while adding 18 assists for 33 points in 74 regular season games. In his first season in the NHL, Pouzar and the Oilers reached the Stanley Cup Finals only to lose in four straight games to the New York Islanders.

Pouzar spent two more seasons with the Oilers capturing "back to back" Stanley Cups in 1984 and 1985 before deciding to return to Europe and play in Germany. For the next two seasons Pouzar was a member of ECD Iserlohn in Germany before returning to the Oilers line up towards the end of the 1986-87 regular season and playoff drive enabling him to capture his third Stanley Cup.

After capturing his third Stanley Cup with the Oilers in 1987, Pouzar returned to Germany the following year and spent the next five years as a member of the Bundesliga/Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

Throughout his NHL career, Jaroslav Pouzar played in 215 regular season and playoff games, scoring 40 goals while adding 52 assists for 92 points.
